Overview

Re Thread is a second-hand store directory app developed as part of my personal project at Academy Xi. The app can generate and map a journey for those keen on exploring multiple stores in a single day. Featuring advanced filtering for what type of second-hand store they’d like to visit, price range, how far they are willing to travel and how many stores they would like to visit.

Research and findings

The resale market is expected to triple in value over the next decade, reflecting a significant shift in the preferences of the next generation of shoppers towards more ethical and sustainable clothing options.

Google Analytics reinforces this trend by highlighting that the top query related to 'op-shop' in Australia is 'op-shop near me,' highlighting the demand for a location-based directory of second-hand stores.

Additionally, insights from 39 surveys and 6 one-on-one interviews revealed that 74% of respondents are keen to explore stores outside their area, emphasizing the broader appeal of a comprehensive and accessible second-hand store directory.

Based on research insights, I crafted two personas: Camilla, a 30 year-old eco-conscious consumer, and Remy, a 26 year-old vintage enthusiast.

Remy's most significant pain point is finding a way to easily view and plan her vintage store expeditions so that it fits in with other activities when she travels with her partner.

Develop a comprehensive directory featuring accurate store listings and categorisation. Enabling users to input their preferences and data, generating personalised journeys that include details such as average browsing times. This allows individuals like Remy to better estimate travel time from store to store and the time needed in each store, so she can plan her days efficiently.
